March 14 was almost upon us, and since last year’s Pi(e) Day party was such a raging success, I decided to rally the troops for another celebration of my favorite food. My fellow pie fanatics answered the call, helping me to celebrate what is fast becoming my favorite holiday of the year.
Rules were the same as last year – cost of entry was a homemade pie. Both savory and sweet pies were welcome. Inventing your own pie recipe was highly encouraged. We ended up with 12 wonderful homemade pies – 5 savory and 7 sweet – a solid showing for a Wednesday night pie extravaganza!
Savory Pies
Who says you can’t make a whole meal out of pie!? We had a good number of savory pies for the main course, though there was nothing in the rules that said you had to start there 😉
Jesse made a Moroccan Chicken Pastilla Pie – crisp layers of crepe-like dough filled with shredded chicken slow-cooked in broth and spices.
Cindy made Asian Curry Chicken Puff Hand Pies. I love a hand pie!
Michael made a Duck Fat Potato Galette with Caraway and Sweet Onions. You had me at “duck fat”!
Colin made French Onion Pie. What a gorgeous pattern!
Heather made her famous individual mini Mushroom Pies – a new and improved version… last year’s were delicious, but somehow she managed to make these even better!
Sweet Pies
Hopefully people were smart enough not to fill up just on the savories, because there were 7 sweet pies still to go!
Alyssa made a Yogurt Pie with Gingersnap Crust topped with Blueberry Cinnamon Compote.
Kris made an Old School Apple Pie. He definitely won for prettiest crust!
Sheana made a Coconut Ice Cream Pie with Dark Chocolate Crust and Passionfruit Puree. This was her attempt at making a pie version of our favorite dessert at Lukshon – it was spot on!
Anthony made a Black Bottom Pie – a bottom layer of chocolate cream in a gingersnap crust with whipped cream topping dusted with chocolate shavings.
Erin and Mollie made a Blackberry Key Lime Pie. Such beautiful presentation!
John made a Shoo Fly Pie – a Pennsylvania Dutch molasses pie with crumb topping.
I made Vietnamese Iced Coffee Pie (find my Guessipe here).
Another successful Pi(e) Day celebration!
