Build Your Own Bowl

These “Build Your Own Bowl” restaurants have been popping up all over the place. We have an Asian-themed one near our local movie theater which we would occasionally patronize after seeing a movie… that is, until I decided it would be easy enough to re-create my favorite sauce flavors and build my own bowl at home. Now my boyfriend won’t even consider going out to build a bowl since we can build tastier bowls at home.

Guessipe

  • grain of your choice
  • protein of your choice
  • vegetables of your choice – some of my favs include:
    • roasted squash
    • corn
    • green onion
    • pickled vegetables (red onion, cabbage, etc.)
    • cucumber
    • jicama
    • carrot
  • shredded cheese of your choice (if you like)

sesame ginger sauce

  • 3 TBSP rice vinegar
  • 2 TBSP maple syrup
  • 2 TBSP soy sauce
  • 2 TBSP sesame oil
  • 1 TBSP sesame paste
  • 1 TBSP ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, grated

sriracha mayo

  • 3 parts kewpie mayo
  • 1 part sriracha

Combine all Sesame Ginger Sauce ingredients in a bottle and shake until emulsified.

Build Your Own Bowl sesame ginger sauce

Combine mayo and sriracha in a squeeze bottle and stir until well combined.

Build Your Own Bowl sriracha mayo

Arrange your choice of grain, protein, vegetables, and cheese in a bowl. Drizzle with Sesame Ginger Sauce and Sriracha Mayo.
