Fish in Black Bean Sauce is a common dish in Chinese restaurants, but it’s actually pretty easy to make at home! The black bean and garlic sauce is what makes this dish, and it works with a variety of different kinds of fish.
Guessipe
- 1 lb fish fillet (sole, tilapia, catfish, cod, etc.), cut into medium-sized chunks
- 1 TBSP corn starch
- oil for stir frying
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 TBSP ginger, minced
- 1 Thai chili, minced
- 1 onion, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 green bell peppers, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 4 TBSP black bean and garlic sauce
- 1 TBSP sugar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp fish sauce
- 3/4 cup water
- 2 TBSP corn starch mixed into 2 TBSP water
- 5 green onions, sliced
Toss the fish in 1 TBSP corn starch and set aside.
Stir fry the garlic, ginger, Thai chili, onion, and bell peppers until the onion begins to turn translucent.
Gently stir in the fish.
Add the black bean sauce, sugar, sesame oil, soy sauce, fish sauce, and water. Bring to a simmer. Use as much corn starch slurry as needed to thicken the sauce to your desired consistency.
Top with green onion and serve over rice.
