Orange Creamsicle Ice Cream

I got an ice cream maker for Christmas! With the crazy egg shortage that’s been happening, eggs are stupid expensive… so I’ve been experimenting for the last several months with Philadelphia style ice cream – no eggs required! It’s taken a bit of trial and error getting to know ice cream-making, but after much tinkering this Orange Creamsicle Ice Cream is my first ice cream Guessipe worthy of being recorded. So that I’ll make it again and again if my boyfriend (who you know is an orange creamsicle fanatic if you’ve been following along) has any say in the matter.

Guessipe

  • 2 TBSP orange zest
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup half and half
  • 2 tsp triple sec
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Blend the orange zest and sugar in a food processor.

Add the orange juice, sour cream, heavy cream, half and half, triple sec, and vanilla. Blend until the sugar is dissolved. Blood orange juice gives it this pretty color, but regular orange juice works too!

Churn in an ice cream maker until the ice cream crawls up the sides of the bowl (about 25 minutes).

Transfer the ice cream to a chilled glass container, press plastic wrap onto the surface of the ice cream, and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving.
