Butter Lettuce Swiss Salad

When I was little my mom would make this butter lettuce salad once in a very long while. It always tasted so good, looked so beautiful, and felt so special – perhaps because each person’s salad was arranged on its own plate, rather than a big salad being assembled in a serving bowl and then dished out. So in my mind, I always thought of this salad as something we only had on special days. I imagined it must be quite hard to make. My adult brain could hardly grasp it when my mom told me how to make it, as it’s actually very easy. But for me, it will always be a special event salad all the same.
