Sweet & Spicy Broccoli

My mom taught me this awesome trick to make broccoli a gorgeous color and great crunchy texture. You basically throw it into boiling water, then immediately pull it out and run it under cold water. Then you can quickly stir-fry it over high heat to infuse whatever flavors you’d like – I like these spicy sweet Asian flavors. Once you have broccoli like this, you’ll never be satisfied with the dull, over-cooked mess that people often make of what should be such a yummy vegetable.

  • 1 lb broccoli, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 5 cloves garlic
  • 1 TBSP olive oil
  • 1 TBSP kecap manis
  • 1 TBSP soy sauce
  • 1 TBSP spicy black bean in oil

Boil a pot of water. Toss in the broccoli, stir, immediately remove and run under cold water. Doing this will make the broccoli vibrant green.
